Handheld Blower
A handheld blower is a portable machine that produces a high-velocity airstream to move leaves, clippings and light debris off lawns, walkways and job sites. It is the fastest common tool for surface cleanup over areas too large for a broom.

Fonctionnement
An engine or electric motor spins an impeller inside a volute housing, drawing air in and accelerating it out through a directed tube. Air volume moves large quantities of light debris, while air speed dislodges wet or stuck material; nozzle shape trades one against the other. The operator sweeps the airstream side to side, working debris downwind into rows or piles for collection.
Types et variantes
- Gas handheld blower
- Two-stroke engine unit with unrestricted runtime, the traditional choice for longer commercial cleanup.
- Battery handheld blower
- Cordless electric unit with low noise and no exhaust, increasingly common where ordinances restrict gas equipment.
- Corded electric blower
- Lightest and simplest option for small properties within reach of an outlet.
- Backpack blower
- Closely related format carrying the power unit on a frame for extended high-output work.
Spécifications clés
| Spécification | Plage typique | Signification |
|---|---|---|
| Air volume (cfm) | Varies widely across the class | Higher volume clears large areas and heavy leaf cover faster. |
| Air speed (mph) | Varies by model and nozzle | Higher velocity shifts wet, matted or stuck-on debris that volume alone will not move. |
| Power source | Gas, battery or corded electric | Drives runtime, noise level, weight and where the unit may legally be used. |
| Noise rating | Published as sound pressure level by most brands | Matters for early-morning work and municipalities with noise ordinances. |
Comment l'industrie le dimensionne
This class has no size bands. Models range from light residential electrics to high-output professional gas units; air volume, air speed, weight and noise rating are the practical differentiators between them.
Applications
- Clearing leaves from lawns and walkways
- Removing grass clippings after mowing
- Jobsite cleanup and surface prep
- Drying hard surfaces before sealing or striping
Sécurité et opération
- The airstream launches grit, twigs and debris at high speed, so eye protection is standard and bystanders are kept well clear.
- Sustained blower noise can damage hearing; hearing protection is recommended for extended gas-unit use.
- Blowing debris toward roads, vehicles or storm drains creates hazards beyond the work area and is avoided by working with the wind toward collection points.
Normes et certifications
- ANSI/OPEI · B175.2
- Safety standard for gasoline-powered handheld and backpack blowers.
- EPA
- Small spark-ignition engine emission rules apply to gasoline-powered blowers sold in the United States.
