Ladder Jack Set

A ladder jack set is a pair of brackets that clamp onto two extension ladders to carry a scaffold plank between them, creating an elevated work platform along a wall or roofline without erecting scaffolding. The catalog lists 5 models from Metaltech and Bosch.

Cómo funciona

Each jack hooks over two or three rungs and hangs a plank shelf either inside (under) or outside (over) the ladder face. With two ladders set at matching angle and spacing, a plank spans the jacks to form a walkable platform. The system borrows its stability from correct ladder setup — both ladders at the proper lean on firm ground — and its capacity from the weakest link among ladders, jacks and plank, which is why all three are checked as a system.

Tipos y variantes

Two-rung ladder jacks
Compact jacks bearing on two rungs, for lighter-duty platforms.
Three-rung ladder jacks
Longer jacks spreading load across three rungs for a steadier bearing.
Inside/outside adjustable jacks
Reversible designs that hang the plank under or outside the ladder face as clearance demands.

Cómo la industria lo dimensiona

Ladder jacks themselves come in one size class; the working height is set by the host ladders and the plank span, and this catalog band covers 5–8 ft platforms. OSHA limits ladder-jack scaffold platforms to 20 ft, and both host ladders must be heavy-duty types rated for the combined platform load, so the system is sized from the plank rating and ladder duty rating together.

Aplicaciones

  • Siding installation along a wall line
  • Fascia, soffit and trim replacement
  • Exterior painting at eave height
  • Gutter installation and repair

Seguridad y operación

  • OSHA 29 CFR 1926.452(k) governs ladder-jack scaffolds: platforms are capped at 20 ft, and host ladders must be heavy-duty types in proper setup.
  • Fall protection applies per scaffold rules — above the threshold height, a personal fall arrest system is the practical control on a ladder-jack platform.
  • Both ladders stand on firm, level ground at the correct angle; a settling foot on one side racks the whole platform.
  • Plank grade and span rating are verified — the plank, not the jacks, is usually the limiting component.

Preguntas frecuentes

How high can a ladder-jack platform legally go?
OSHA caps ladder-jack scaffold platforms at 20 ft; this class serves the 5-8 ft band where the system is most practical.
What ladders work with ladder jacks?
Heavy-duty extension ladders rated for the combined load, set at the proper angle on firm ground — the jacks are only as good as the ladders under them.
When is scaffolding better than ladder jacks?
For longer duration work, heavier material loads or heights approaching the 20 ft cap, a frame scaffold or baker tower is the safer and more productive platform.
