Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers remove moisture from air for structural drying and climate control. Desiccant units are the larger class in the catalog, with low-grain refrigerant (LGR) machines as the restoration standard.

How it works

An LGR unit chills incoming air below dew point twice over, condensing moisture that drains away, and performs best warm and wet. A desiccant wheel adsorbs vapor directly and regenerates with heated air ducted outside — effective at low temperatures and low humidity where refrigerant units stall. Removal is measured in pints per day at rated conditions.

Types & variants

Desiccant Dehumidifier
Dehumidifier that adsorbs moisture onto a desiccant wheel, effective at low temperatures.
Refrigerant Dehumidifier (LGR)
Low-grain refrigerant unit that condenses moisture for structural drying.
Lumber Dryer
Dehumidification system configured for drying sawn lumber.
Moisture Meter
Instrument that measures moisture content in wood and building materials.

How to choose

Conditions pick the technology: warm, saturated environments early in a drying job favor LGR; cold spaces, dense materials, and deep drying favor desiccant. Grain depression targets, chamber volume, and the IICRC S500 drying-standard math determine how many units and how much airflow a job needs.

Standards & certifications

IICRC · S500
Standard of care for water-damage restoration and structural drying equipment deployment.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between desiccant and LGR dehumidifiers?
Mechanism and operating window. LGR machines condense moisture on cold coils and excel warm and wet; desiccants adsorb vapor onto a wheel and keep working in cold spaces and at low humidity where condensation physics gives out.
How is drying equipment quantified on a water loss?
By the S500 framework: affected area and materials set air mover counts, and chamber volume with moisture load sets dehumidification capacity in pints per day.
Why pair a moisture meter with drying equipment?
Verification. Drying ends when materials reach dry standard, not when surfaces look dry — meters track moisture content daily and document completion.
